Bitumen Primer Grade
Bitumen Primer Grade
Bitumen Primer grade is a bitumen-based primer for the surface conditioning of concrete and timber substrates prior to the application of heat-fused APP and SBS-modified bitumen membranes such as UniTorch.
SKU: Bitumen
Bitumen Primer Grade is a bitumen-based primer for the surface conditioning of concrete and timber substrates prior to the application of heat-fused APP and SBS-modified bitumen membranes such as UniTorch.
Versatile Bituminous Primer for porous and non–porous surfaces
- Used on concrete, metal, and timber surfaces
- Economical & easy to apply
Bitumen Primer Application
Bitumen Primer may be applied by brush or roller. The applied film must be allowed to dry before being overlaid with any waterproofing treatment so as to avoid solvent entrapment. Surface preparation as with all surface coatings, good preparation is of paramount importance to the success and long–life of the system. Ensure that the surface to be treated is dry and free of loose, dusting, or flaking particles and free from contaminants such as grease and fungus. Defects such as cracks, broken mortar joints, etc. are to be repaired prior to primer application.
Usage of Bitumen Primer
Bitumen primers used in the adhesion of the coating act as a bond between the surfaces. Bitumen Primers come in many different types of primer based on the substrate, weather conditions, and the type of coating being applied.
Surfaces that generally require Primer include
Metal flashings, gravel stops, other metal edging, concrete and masonry roof decks, masonry walls and floors, and gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O), and other porous surfaces. Asphalt primers should be used with asphalt materials only.
Features of Bitumen Primer D41:
- Improves the bond of bituminous materials
- Binder for dust particles

- Conforms to the requirements of ASTM D41, Type I
- Conforms to SASO 2057
- Water-resistant.
- Corrosion and chemical resistance.
- Penetrates and seals porous surfaces.
- Fast drying.
- Cost-effective, No heating, Thinning, or mixing.
- Compatible with various substrates and structures.
Uses of Bitumen Primer D41
Suitable for use with asphalt in roofing, damp proofing, and waterproofing below or above ground level, for application to concrete. Masonry, metal, and asphalt surfaces. Also used as a primer coat to receive membranes or liquid as asphalts and asphalt products.
Main Uses
The universal primer on roofs and walls is made from reinforced concrete, asphalt, bricks, metal, and porous substrates before applying any waterproofing sheet membranes and protective coatings. Single coat protective coating on various construction structures and on metal structures. It can be applied to vertical and horizontal structures.
Instructions for application
Primer D 41 should be thoroughly stirred before use. The surface should be dry, clean, and free of loose materials, dirt, soil, grease, oil, or other impurities. Apply Bitumen Primer D41 by means of a brush, roller, or spray gun @ of 5–6 m²/lit into the entire coverage area of the substrate and allow drying. The drying time and coverage depend on the porosity of the substrate and the environmental conditions.
Cleaning
The Primer can be removed from equipment and tools with any suitable solvent such as gasoline or kerosene.
STANDARD SPECIFICATION OF BITUMEN PRIMER GRADE D41
Product Name:
- Bitumen Primer
- Medium Curing Bitumen Primer D41
General Information:
Priming and Tack coating – D41 Bitumen suitable for priming is also used for track coats, which are applied to an underlying surface to help with the adhesion of subsequent asphalt layers.
Primer Sealing: Where temperatures are too cool for an effective priming operation, or where traffic is likely to upset a primed surface before the final seal can be sprayed. A primer seal can be used to give adequate protection to the pavement for a period of up to 6 to 12 months. D41 bitumen suitable for primer sealing can also be used in the manufacture of pre–mix asphalt, which is used in repairs.
Sprayed sealing: D41 bitumen is used extensively in sprayed sealing applications, particularly in cooler weather where they provide improved initial stone retention due to its lower viscosity.
Packaging: 220, 230, 240 (Liter) New Steel Drum, 18–20 Kg. drum
